My story
Maya holds a Bachelors degree in Cello Performance from Luther College and has been playing the cello for many years, beginning her musical journey at age 10. In addition to a bachelors degree she is currently working on masters degree in Elementary Education at DePaul University. She brings a warm, friendly, and encouraging approach to teaching and is passionate about helping students discover the joy of making music.
Influenced by the Suzuki method, Maya believes that every student can learn music in a supportive environment through consistent practice, careful listening, repetition, and positive encouragement. The Suzuki approach emphasizes learning music in a natural, step-by-step way, similar to how children learn their first language, while developing a strong foundation of technique, musicality, and confidence.
Maya believes the cello has a unique ability to sound like the human voice and encourages students to explore its expressive and beautiful qualities. She teaches students of all ages and levels, from young beginners to adults, and tailors lessons to each student’s goals, learning style, and musical interests. Lessons are available one-on-one, for siblings learning together, or virtually, offering flexible options to meet the needs of each student and family.
Above all, Maya strives to create a welcoming and positive environment where students can build confidence, develop their musicianship, and cultivate a lifelong love of the cello.
